5 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Lead Generation Company
Buying leads is easy. Buying good leads from a company that actually cares whether you close them is not. Before you sign anything or send a deposit, put every prospective vendor through these five questions. The answers tell you fast whether you're hiring a partner or a list broker.
1. Are these leads exclusive, or shared?
This is the first and most important question. If a lead is sold to multiple buyers, your conversion rate is capped before you ever pick up the phone. Ask directly: is the lead delivered to me alone, or to several companies at once? A partner selling exclusive leads will say so plainly.
2. How and when are leads delivered?
Real-time delivery — straight into your CRM or inbox the moment a prospect engages — dramatically outperforms a spreadsheet emailed once a day. Ask how leads arrive, how fast, and whether they integrate with your systems. Speed to lead is one of the biggest levers on conversion.
3. Where do the leads come from?
You should never get a vague answer here. A credible company can explain, in plain language, how its leads are generated and why the prospects have genuine intent. If sourcing is a mystery, assume the quality is too.
A good lead partner is proud of where their leads come from. Evasiveness about sourcing is the loudest red flag there is.
4. How do you handle quality and bad leads?
Even great sources produce the occasional dud. What matters is what happens next. Ask how records are validated and cleansed before delivery, and what the policy is on obviously bad leads. A partner stands behind their product; a broker shrugs.
5. Will I have a real point of contact?
When something needs adjusting — targeting, volume, timing — can you reach a human who knows your account? The best lead relationships are ongoing and collaborative. If your only touchpoint is a checkout page, you're buying a commodity, not building a pipeline.
The pattern behind the questions
Notice what these five have in common: they all separate a transactional vendor from an invested partner. Exclusivity, real-time delivery, transparent sourcing, quality standards, and a real relationship are exactly the things that determine whether your lead spend turns into customers.
We built Momentum Marketing to answer all five of these with a confident yes. If you'd like to hear how, let's talk.
